BC Tech gives federal budget an A-

BC Tech has given the federal budget released November 5 a grade of A-, welcoming what it calls valuable changes for B.C. innovators. The organization pointed to a new Canada Growth Incentive, a Canadian version of the U.S. QSBS regime that exempts up to $15 million in capital gains on qualifying shares held at least three years in companies with up to $100 million in assets.

It also welcomed the extension of SR&ED to commercialization expenses, though it notes the $930 million, five-year envelope is likely to limit the credit at the outset. One key omission, according to BC Tech, was extending flow-through shares to sectors including cleantech, biotech, quantum computing, advanced manufacturing and AI.
