Earlier this week, LinkedIn released its 5th annual Top Startups list for Canada. The Microsoft-owned professional network bills it as a must-read resource for startups to pay attention to right now. Among the three B.C.-based companies acknowledged, Victoria’s Certn was the only local company to make the cut.

To compile the list, LinkedIn says it looks at data across four pillars: employee growth; jobseeker interest; member engagement within the company and its employees; and how well these startups pulled talent from our flagship LinkedIn Top Companies list.

According to LinkedIn, the list is “ultimately meant to be a resource for jobseekers excited by the opportunity to innovate, solve big problems and grow their skills.”

Founded in 2016, Certn specializes in conducting background checks. Employers and landlords use it to streamline candidate screening processes and reduce costs. In July, the fast-growing firm hired an executive to oversee markets in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. In addition, it raised $65 million in Series B funding this past Spring.

Other B.C. firms to be noted in LinkedIn’s list include competitive intelligence startup Klue and Web3 behemoth Dapper Labs.
