Victoria celebrates six decades of innovation

To close 2023, the University of Victoria, ranked third in the world and first in Canada for climate action, celebrated six decades of collaboration, innovation, and inclusion.

Since its inauguration in 1963, the University of Victoria has been a pillar of the research and innovation community. The university regularly claims top billing in research collaboration, Open Access publications, Indigenous visibility, grants, and sustainability.

The institution celebrated 60 years by highlighting milestones and initiatives including:

Alongside anniversary celebrations, the university welcomed back Dr. Lisa Kalynchuk for her second consecutive five-year term as the vice-president of research and innovation.

🎂 Happy birthday to you: The Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce celebrated 160 years. Chamber CEO Bruce Williams met with Jim Zeeben — lead of the 1863 web project — and Lian Woo, the Chamber’s research and co-op student, to discuss the region’s economic past and the rich history of local communities.

 Tomorrow never knows: Marco Pimentel, chief marketing officer of Victoria-based Redbrick, shared his perspective on the future of the sustainable economy. For Pimental, things are looking bright.
