Welcome to this week’s Sunday Briefing. In this issue, read about the Vancouver Island snow pack, fusion technology, and a newly retired local leader.

Now onto today’s briefing. It’s 595 words: a three-minute read.

By the way, if you're not already subscribed, you can fix that here.

Victoria medical technology heads to space

Earlier this year, we wrote about Georgia Powell, a local entrepreneur whose startup, NURA Medical, is helping ensure accurate medication preparation so that patients always receive the right dosage.

Well, Powell is back and ready to take on a new challenge. Armed with funding from the Canadian Space Agency’s Orbite Health grant, Powell and her team at NURA Medical will develop robust, scalable, digital clinical decision-support and weight estimation tools to provide high-quality care in the most challenging conditions—from outer space to remote regions on Earth.

“We are thrilled to receive the Orbite Health grant. This is a testament to NURA's dedication to making healthcare accessible to all, no matter where they are,” said Powell, co-founder and CEO of NURA Medical. "We are particularly excited about the benefits that we can bring to rural communities in Canada, and abroad through digital technology. Health professionals in remote areas are asked to do a near-impossible job on a daily basis, and we believe that technology can lighten the load for them."
