The federal government announced $17.3 million in investments across eight BC companies commercializing AI and quantum technologies during Web Summit Vancouver. The funding was announced by the Honourable Gregor Robertson, Minister responsible for Pacific Economic Development Canada, at the Vancouver headquarters of Human in Motion Robotics.

The eight recipients span a range of sectors, from wearable robotics and quantum photonics to music education and mineral exploration. The largest single investment goes to Abbotsford-based Musora at $5 million, while Vancouver-based Human in Motion Robotics is receiving $3 million to integrate AI into its wearable exoskeleton technology.

Victoria-based Starfish Medical is receiving $620,000 to develop an AI platform that accelerates medical device design. The company helps medical device firms design, test, and bring new products to market, and the investment will support the purchase of computing equipment and the hiring of AI specialists.

Since its creation in 2021, PacifiCan has invested over $387 million in BC tech companies.
